Father’s Day, A Celebration of the Dad

Men… those unsung heroes.  Men are true contributors to our daily lives.  I live with one, and he is a Dad.  He is the father of our wonderful young son.

His contributions are many.  Sometimes, he tells me that our son is awake and I need to pay attention to him.  Usually I am doing the dishes or laundry or mowing the yard when “the announcement” is made.

Often, my son’s father will let me know that we are out of his favorite cereal and give helpful suggestions for grocery stores my son and I can travel to and get Dad’s favorite cereal.  He is also very helpful when I cook by sharing with me how I can improve upon my current meal!

Other times, he helpfully points out that the floor is getting dirty because it rained outside.  That’s him, always observant.

Joy of joys, on Sunday, June 19th we get to celebrate the announcer, suggestion expert and master of observation!

I also have a Dad.  In my eyes, he is everything (although my Mother probably has another opinion that she tactfully keeps to herself.)
My Dad washes my car, plays with my son and loves me unconditionally.   He is brilliant and helpful.  He taught me to swim, shoot guns, tell dirty jokes and drive.  He bought me a motorcycle and a Fiat Spider in my youth.  (Mom made him take both of them back.)  Yes, my Dad is AWESOME!

I can’t wait to do something special for my Dad and I guess my son’s Dad can come along to.  I have been looking around for some ideas for Dad in New Orleans.

Men LOVE food/sports/music and just hanging with the family, right?  Here are a few suggestions for Father’s Day:

HOUSE OF BLUES GOSPEL BRUNCH:  I think it would be great fun to take my son’s father to the House of Blues for the Sunday Gospel Brunch with the Zion Harmonizers.   He could learn to appreciate some good music and fine dining!

FAMILY RUNNING:  We want to keep them around for a lifetime so let’s get them running at the 10th Annual Each One Save One Father's Day Race sponsored by the New Orleans Track Club.

One of the many highlights of this race is the team division, there is more information at http://www.runnotc.org/. The race includes a 1/2 mile kids run and a 2 mile run for all ages. All proceeds benefit the nationally recognized Each One Save One organization.

When:   Sunday, June 19th         What Time: 8-11am                Where: Audubon Park

Get your father, or baby’s daddy and other family and friends together for running/jogging/walking fun along with free hot dogs, free jambalya and free beer!

On the Air is a rollicking rendition of a live radio broadcast from 1945! The cast of five includes a singing W.A.C., a swinging crooner and a blues singer who can belt a torch song. A live band brings the era to life with a timeless musical score, comedy and more! It’s a trip back in time and guests will love coming along for the ride as the live studio audience. Add spectacular dining by Chef John Besh and the American Sector restaurant for the ultimate experience. Advance ticket purchase or reservations are recommended. Purchase tickets online or call 504-528-1943.

WANT A DAY DOWNTOWN/FRENCH QUARTER?
I suggest you start with Beignet’s at the Café du Monde.  Take a stroll along the river or grab the ferry across the River and back.  Wind your way back to the French Market and buy him something nice.  For lunch, swing by Coop’s Place and get him the “Coop’s Place Taste” for lunch.
Enjoy a walk around the St. Louis Cathedral and take a romantic ride on a horse drawn cart.  Walk up to
Canal Street
to the Palace Café and sit outside and enjoy a White Chocolate Bread Pudding.   Take a walk down
Bourbon Street
and pop into the Cajun Cabin for good food and great music.  Finally, finish your evening stroll back to your hotel.
If your Baby’s Daddy is as awesome as mine then you will want to come home to the Hilton St. Charles and one of our fabulous Jacuzzi Suites.  (No, not to drown him!)  Ask for a bottle of wine delivered and soak your aching body from all of the Father’s Day adventures you just had!
